final thesis BATTLE

This is my final illustration for my senior thesis!  It’s the battle between Plumboy and his animal companions and the hoard of evil monsters that were terrorizing his town.  I chose to do a battle as a challenge since I’ve never done anything like it before.  I’m happy with how it turned out :)

Here is an environment illustration for my thesis this semester! This is Moe and Poe's home! They have an orchard of grape trees and some gardens around.  Poe is off to work with his lunch and Moe is suspicious of that carrot :)

Pastries and Pie

The Pie Prince returns!  This illustration is for my d-painting class. For this class we use digital and traditional mediums together however we want.  I wasn't really sure what I was doing, but I like what I did!  I drew the lines with pencil, did the flat colors in Photoshop, and then printed it out and painted the values with acrylic.  I felt like painting food, so eventually it became the Pie Prince's dessert dream :)

This is my fourth thesis Illustration for my fall thesis Thistle and the Pie Prince!  The two characters are at the base of the monstrous king's mountain castle.  I sure hope they are good climbers.

My first environment for my thesis from the world of Thistle and the Pie Prince!  I began it with not only the world itself but also shape design aesthetics in mind, and I really like how it turned out!  I plan on using this approach for a while :)

In my professional development class we had to made an illustration for a mock poster job.  Basically, it was just an excuse to draw whatever we wanted, so I drew unicorns, giants and a joyful centaur running towards some dragon hills.  Yes.

story boards, cupcakes, and pokemon

Hi there!  I know it's been a while, but I have been keeping super busy with stuff like my senior year of college!  Here are a few of the things I've done for school, and some things I've done for myself.

This was the first story-boarding assignment for my story boards class!  We had to story board a childhood memory.  Our teacher wanted to see what we knew, so he didn't explain how to do story boards before giving the assignment.

This was our second story-boarding assignment.  Our teacher gave us a bunch of panels with random black shapes that we had to use.  We had to incorporate all of them into our own narrative.

Our third story boarding assignment!  This time we had to use cut-paper and story board someone or something eating.  I chose a barbarian with flowing hair eating a giant boar.

The cupcake king and an oddish for fun.  More fun things to come :)

vend send mend!

Hey!  It's been a while!  Life has been busy, but hopefully I will start updating again more often!   This is my submission to an awesome tsunami relief art auction called Vend Send Mend.  http://www.vendsendmend.com/

It is crow quill and watercolors, and it was really fun to do something in traditional media for a change!

enviornment nook n' cranny 2

Here is my second "nook and cranny" of my world for concept art.  This time I zoomed in on part of the village and the tree.  I decided to try the line art route this time around instead of the painterly one.  It was fun :)

urban legend monsters gift wrap

Here is my finished urban legend monster gift wrap featuring the Yeti, Mothman, and the Jackalope!  I used mixed media for this to try out something new-ish.  It's acrylic, crow quill, and photoshop!  :D

silly gift wrap practice

Today in class we learned how to make a repeating pattern for our gift wrap project due after spring break.  In class we had to do a practice pattern based off of what we will eventually do for the finish.  The teacher had us do it traditionally by actually cutting and taping the paper together to create a repeatable image.  Last week we were all given specific topics and I got lucky.  I was given "everyday" which basically means I can do gift wrap of anything.  I am doing something along the lines of retro-inspired cute monsters from urban legends.  This practice is just of a yeti eating ice cream and moth-man smelling a flower.  It's not perfect, but that's why it's practice :)

words, worlds, and dolls

Here is some more stuff I've done for school.  The first two are for Words on Wheels, a partnership MICA has with the Baltimore grade schools.  The students write poems and then some are given to the students in some of the Concepts II classes to illustrate.  The size and format are very specific in that we were not allowed to alter the font or shape of the student's poems.  The first image is just my illustration and the second is with the student's poem.  We are going to submit fully formatted prints of our work and they will be judged and the winning illustrations will be printed and featured in the city buses :)

The next image is of the "paper" dolls that I made to dress for my Lifestyle illustration class.   Each week we are supposed to dress the dolls in clothes from any designer of our choosing.

The last two illustrations are for my Advanced Concept Art Class.  That class is built around world building.  Each student is creating their own world from scratch and each project is meant to explore that world.  The illustrations are of a tentative map of my world and also a "beauty" shot of the environment.  This is a huge learning experience for me because I have never really worked with concept environments before.  I am learning a lot.  Both illustrations are actually second tries of my first attempts.  In a nutshell, my world is a planet now covered in a poisonous cloud.  I am focusing on one of the three villages that were able to escape to the skies before the entire world was consumed by the poison. The inhabitants use gliders as a main form of transportation between the floating villages.  Pretty cool.

Another assignment for my Concepts II class.  We had to chose any news article and illustrate it and then put it on a t-shirt.  I chose the story about the man, Adam Potter, who fell 1000 feet while mountain climbing and made it to the bottom basically unharmed.  He was found by the police on his feet reading a map. Done with crow quill and photoshop.

For the first assignment of my Concepts II class we were each given a chapter of the Hipster Handbook and had to do a full page, half page, and quarter page illustration for our chapter.  I got the UTF (unemployed trust-funder) hipster. Oh, hipsters. Done with crow quill and photoshop.
